What should make up your Spring diet? After Winter, Spring comes as a nice breeze, bringing transformation and renewal. If we already gave you a few pointers for your Winter diet, now is the time for a good Spring clean to get rid of Kapha’s heavy energy accumulated through Winter. Let’s see what Ayurveda tells us about adapting our daily routine during Spring to make the most its revitalizing power. So now, what’s on the menu?
How to revitalize our body and mind during Spring?
According to Ayurveda, each hour of the day, each person, each season, is ruled by one of the three Doshas – Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. So now, which Dosha would you say rule over Spring? Though it may seem unexpected, Spring, like Winter, is also ruled by Kapha, Earth, and Water’s combination. But in the end, is it that weird? Which season more than Spring is related to those two elements? During Spring, the earth renews itself after Winter; the snow melts, and floods seem to be springing everywhere. Spring brings smoothness and life all around us. So now, how can we adapt our daily routine to best approach this season?
Try to favor fruits like apples, apricots, cherries, berries, lemons, pears, and peaches. Of course, you should be careful of what grows in your region this time of year and adapt your diet accordingly.
Again here, try to privilege local and seasonal food. You can go for artichokes, asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, carrots, kale, lettuce, spinach, and mushrooms.
- Grains & Legumes
Try to stay away from heavy, fried dishes. Avoid heavy ingredients like wheat-based preparation and prefer rice (basmati), quinoa, or millet. In terms of Legumes, miso, lentils, and garbanzos can be recommended as well.
- What if I’m a sweet-tooth?
Think honey or maple syrup to sweeten your desserts.
You’re now ready for Spring!
Stay tuned for the best food choices this Summer.
